from last fall
Torn between Now and Then
I feel subtle pangs ring out.
Take this weight off my chest,
I want to breathe deeper.
Unshackle my unthankful wrists,
today I wish to go outside.
But please don’t let me roam too far,
I know I’ll go right back down to the creek.
I know I’ll be all muddy again.
You’ll wash my overalls with a sigh
and I’ll wonder why I even go outside anymore.
